Ristiku School Gets a Modern Ventilation System

Ristiku School in Tallinn underwent a major renovation this year, including the installation of a brand-new ventilation system. Since the works lasted nearly nine months, Hiieko carried out the installation in stages, following the general contractor’s progress.

The goal was to equip the historic 1929 school building with a modern ventilation and ventilation heating system that meets today’s standards – without altering its original layout. Hiieko’s project achieved this by installing 17 units strategically across the building, preserving the architectural charm.

One of the biggest challenges was fitting the equipment and ductwork into very tight spaces – every centimeter counted. For example, along the roof ridge runs a 65-meter line of ventilation units that required the roof to be opened during installation.

The renovation brought a new flow of fresh air to the entire building. The school kitchen received an ETS NORD ozone-cleaning hood that reduces grease particles and energy use. The chemistry lab got an acid-resistant exhaust system with a Soler & Palau polypropylene fan for handling corrosive vapors. To preserve the building’s historical look, custom decorative grilles were used throughout the interior and façade.

Hiieko thanks the client, Tallinn Education Department, main contractor Tarrest LT OÜ, and equipment suppliers Komfovent, IV Produkt, and ETS NORD AS for their excellent cooperation on this unique project.
